Down The Mississippi River

Greetings.
BOO! Trick or treat.
There, I got that out of the way. I grew up in Seattle and when you planned your Halloween costume you wanted to make sure it was rain proof or at least offered you some protection from the elements. Sandy, my wife, who grew up in Minneapolis, says she remembers going trick or treating in a snow suit. DAMN! Which is worse: getting drowned or frozen to death? Anyway, wherever you are, Happy Halloween.
We got back Tuesday morning at O-dark-thirty from our river cruise and crashed immediately. There is nothing like your own bed and pillow. Going down the Mississippi was interesting. I guess they had to set the trip up so we traveled mostly at night. I wish we could have seen more of the river during the day as we traveled down it. There was one full day of travel so we did see the river that day. The boat made thirteen stops from Red Wing Minnesota to New Orleans Louisiana, which were very interesting.
In Memphis we visited famous Sun Records. You know, the place where some singer named Presley first recorded. The place is very small, with a small front office, a nice sized room where the artist would perform and behind that was the recording booth. That’s it. Three rooms. The studio claims it’s the birthplace of Rock N Roll. Maybe you have heard of the “Million Dollar Quartet” they all recorded there. The list of artists who got started there was long and perhaps that claim is justified. On the floor where the artist would perform was a big black X. That is where Elvis was supposed to have stood when he made his recordings. I stood on the X, but didn’t feel the urge to sing. Oh well!
New Orleans was interesting. The one thing we learned that only two and a half days is not nearly enough time to absorb the town. One afternoon we were walking down a street, and a group of about 8 or 9 musicians were playing jazz. It was fantastic, we enjoyed it a lot. Also saw a Halloween Parade one evening going down Canal Street, that was quite the sight.
I’m back to working on book eight. The working title is “Dragons Tale”. I hope to get it finished soon. So, stay tuned and I’ll let you know when it will be released.
Thank you for your interest and for reading my stuff.
Have a great day,
Paul
